FAQS
Questions: Email jlarrick@clevelandvolleyballcompany.com
What are summer tryouts for?
Summer tryouts are to select 14U-18U athletes for the 2026-27 club season.
What age groups can attend summer tryouts?
14's-18's. All divisions
Can I attend summer tryouts if I signed an early contract?
No. If you signed an early contract, you cannot attend any tryouts. If you signed an early contract with CVC, we ask that you attend CVC tryouts. However, if you signed an early contract at another club, you cannot attend a CVC tryout.
What are grade-level teams?
The age definitions set by the OVR may conflict with the grade your athlete is in. If your athlete's birthdate makes them "too old" for the age group that their classmates are in, they are eligible to play on a grade-level team. For example, the 11U division is typically 5th grade. If your athlete is in 5th grade but the age chart puts them in the 12U division, they can play 11U because of their grade. HOWEVER, grade-level teams are teams that do not attend national level events. At CVC, 10U teams are grade-level, and grey, white, and red teams are considered grade-level.
How do I decide which tryout to attend if my athlete's birthdate puts them in an older age group?
When an athlete's birthdate puts them in an older age bracket than their peers, there are some things to take into consideration:
* Does your athlete have hopes to play on a national level team? If so, they must tryout for the older age group.
* Choosing to tryout in your athletes grade-level will limit how many teams /positions are available for them to make.
Parents/Players should decide what experience they are looking for and the talent level of their athlete compared to those in their grade-level and age group.
Where are CVC Tryouts held?
T3 Performance, Building #2, 1945 Recreation Ln., Avon, OH
What should I bring to tryouts?
Athletes should come dressed to play in athletic apparel of their choice. This may or may not include spandex shorts, kneepads, ankle supports, etc. Athletes should bring a water bottle.
Also, athletes need to bring the following paperwork:
- Completed CVC Player Information Form (signed and unsigned athletes need to bring this form)
- TRYOUT AND MEMBERSHIP FEES SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAID ONLINE!
What should I expect at tryouts?
Upon arrival, you will check-in at the registration desk and be given a number to pin to the back of your shirt (we will provide you with the number/pin). We will have a brief introductory meeting for parents and players before warming up. The staff will have you run through several volleyball drills for the basics: passing, serving, hitting, etc. We will then move into game play/wash drills. The staff will be evaluating the entire time. Tryouts are solely for evaluating skills, athletic ability and attitude. We are looking for good volleyball players and/or good athletes and your potential as a CVC athlete and teammate.
Are parents able to stay at tryouts?
No, parents are not permitted in the building during tryouts. We will have a brief introduction prior to starting and would encourage parents to attend. Parents should return about 15min prior to the end of tryouts for contract information.
Who should attend the make-up tryout?
If you are absolutely unable to attend the tryout time for your age group, you are welcome to attend the make-up tryout or you can contact us via email to attend a different age group's time instead; however, we would strongly encourage you to come to your first tryout time even if for part of the time if possible.
Make-up tryout options: We MAY have summer make-up tryouts (14-18's) based on team needs, if applicable.
When will I know if I made a team?
As our staff for that same age group is evaluating throughout the duration of the tryout while our other staff members run drills, they are able to make their selections and notify athletes at the end of the tryouts. Alternates are often chosen to be part of the CVC program so don't lose hope if you are an alternate! You may very well hear from us in the days ahead!
What do I do if I make the team?
We hope you choose to accept your offer! You will receive a digital invitation to join CVC. You must respond by either accepting or declining the offer by the contract deadline. Deadline dates are set by the OVR, not by individual clubs. Clubs cannot ask you to answer prior to the deadline if you are not ready to make a decision.
If we offer you a contract, we are sure! We want you to feel the same. As soon as you make a decision, please email us your acceptance as all acceptances must be in writing per OVR policy.
Additional details regarding acceptance will be outlined in the offer email. If we do not receive a response by the deadline, the position will be offered to an alternate. If you have any questions regarding the offer, please reach out to the email on your contract as soon as possible!
